Innovative Ideas Lead to
a Pump Track

After the City of Olympia’s first successful season of ice skating at Isthmus Park, it was clear the public wanted more.  Jonathon Turlove, Associate Director of Parks Planning & Maintenance came up with the innovative idea to turn the ice rink into a pump track until Oly on Ice returns. Pictured is an experienced rider doing a 360 during a demonstration at the grand opening ceremony.

Cost Recovery Master Class

Tuesday, June 11, 2019 | Lynnwood Fire Station 15

110% has developed a Master Class in Cost Recovery that is being held in eight cities across the US in 2019. Host cities include Englewood, Colorado; Mesa, Arizona; San Antonio, Texas; Oak Park, Illinois, and Lynnwood, Washington!

This program was developed as a two-day immersive course that will cover the essentials of financial management and responsibility in public parks and recreation. Given the current economic landscape and the recurring interests in our profession being “recession-ready,” the timing could not be better for a program like this.

Registration for this event is $329.00 (taxes waived). This course is limited to 30 registrations and registrations will only be accepted through May 31, 2019. Learn more today and sign up soon.

By Roth, Kevin, Ph.D.

Have you heard someone in your community say, “I didn’t know Parks and Recreation offered that?”  Well, you are not alone.

NRPA conducted research that shows users are not getting the awareness and information about programs being offered in their parks and facilities. In fact, almost 3 out of 10 respondents reported they were not aware of parks and recreation offerings. Find out what actions you can take to help develop an action and implementation and awareness plan that fits your agency from this NRPA article.

Read the full article on pages 12-15 of NRPA's Parks & Recreation Magazine.
