In 2021, the Washington State Legislature directed the Recreation and Conservation Office to develop an official statewide database of trails. The Washington State Trails Database will be a multi-functional tool to aid the development and stewardship of the state’s trails system. It will enable trail managers to collaborate across different jurisdictions to coordinate regional trail connections and comprehensively visualize the State’s trail system. RCO is committed to collaboratively building the Washington State Trails Database to meet the needs of local and regional trail partners across the state.

RCO recently contracted with a development team from Esri to help with this initiative. To kick it off, we are hosting an informational webinar on Thursday, March 17th from 1-2 pm. We invite you and members of your staff to attend. The goal of this webinar is to introduce the Washington State Trails Database concept, discuss the anticipated development process, and answer questions.

Following this webinar, Esri and RCO will convene a series of data development workshops to identify user needs, discuss system requirements and develop a common data model. Participants only need to attend one data workshop.
