WRPA Fitness/Athletic Networking Retreat a Huge Success

Two Fantastic Days of Discussion!

The WRPA Fitness/Athletic Networking Network gathered in Leavenworth, WA for a two-day retreat on November 14–15, 2019. They discussed various hot topics, pain points, and the latest trends in municipal fitness and athletics. There were 21 park professionals present and everyone had a great time learning and networking together. Chelan County PUD graciously provided the meeting location at no charge, just a couple blocks away from downtown Leavenworth. It was a wonderful time to be in Leavenworth, as the Christmas lights were up, but it was not crowded.

The Metro Parks Tacoma team presented on their youth athletic partnership agreement with the YMCA and the Boys and Girls club which sparked a lot of conversation and interest. In the afternoon on the 14th, the group met back up after lunch for two breakout sessions.

On Friday morning, the City of Everett presented about how to improve the quality of municipal fitness programming, followed by a large group discussion to wrap up the retreat.

Fitness/Athletic Network co-chairs Clay Lindsay and Kimberly Shelton are excited to gather feedback to determine how well the retreat was received and how frequently to hold the two-day retreats.
