2020 Success Story: Pierce County Parks - Specialized Recreation
Specialized Recreation
A message from the Pierce County Parks
Pierce County Parks Specialized Recreation Program has had great success in 2020 by swiftly transitioning programming for people of all abilities to virtual platforms. In March, their online community was already active and facilitating virtual events to stay connected to the community. The Specialized Recreation Program Facebook Group has regular lineups like “Jabber with Jen(n)” videos, that interview interesting community members, and Facebook Live chats, that help the group stay engaged and interactive.
Followers are also treated to virtual activities like cooking shows, crafts, park spaces to enjoy, meet and greets with pets, and updates on small-group in-person activities. The Specialized Recreation Program Facebook Group goes live every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 2 p.m. to provide consistent and enriching content that is so crucial to this community.
In recognition their hard work and ingenuity, the program’s lead staff were honored at this year’s Pierce County employee recognition “Standing Ovation” ceremony. Check out their award video.
