Wednesday, April 10 | 2:45pm - 4:00pm

Session Description:

Visible homelessness in public spaces has become an increasingly challenging issue for parks and recreation departments who are looking to respond to this complex issue in productive, politically sensitive ways. Participants will explore optimistic strategies for simultaneously improving the lives of those experiencing homelessness while also improving communities’ perception of public spaces. Inspired by best practices, participants will collectively brainstorm ways that their agencies can utilize current resources to address this challenging problem.

  • Explore the different ways that homelessness is manifested in our public spaces.
  • Learn how parks professionals are using their resources to improve the health, safety and welfare of people experiencing homelessness.
  • Collaboratively develop optimistic strategies to mitigate and minimize the incidence of homelessness, improve public perceptions of homelessness and invigorate public spaces.
