Developing an Agency Marketing Plan

Session Description:

A good marketing plan is so much more than an advertising budget. A good plan will ensure programs are successfully planned, executed and evaluated. This session will provide an overview of the key components that should be part of every parks and recreation marketing plan. Utilizing the CAPRA recommended standards, participants will discuss how to effectively design plans which will not only help support their agency’s revenue goals, but also better understand their customers’ needs. Participants will leave with the knowledge and tools needed to start developing their own plans.

  • Learn about the key components to a park and recreation agency marketing plan.
  • Understand the difference between marketing and advertising, and the importance of program and product evaluation.
  • Learn about CAPRA (Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies) standards relating to marketing.

Colin Walker, Department Marketing Administrator, Bellevue Parks & Community Services

About the Speakers:

Colin has been responsible for marketing recreation and parks programs and services for Bellevue Parks & Community Services for more than ten years. In his current position as department marketing administrator, he is responsible for development and implementation of the department’s marketing and communications plan. He has studied marketing in the context of municipal recreation since 2000, and continually seeks opportunities to improve customer access to information. Colin has a Bachelor of Science from Central Washington University, and a Master of Public Administration from Seattle University.
