Session Description:

This session will provide an overview of the agency rulemaking process for civil rights legislation in Washington State, focusing on sexual orientation and gender identity in places of public accommodation. Participants should bring questions for an open Q&A session to better understand what is required by the law.


Janice Whitman, Civil Rights Specialist, Washington State Human Rights Commission

About the Speaker:

Janice started as an investigator with the Washington State Human Rights Commission in 2001. Her duties include education and outreach, technical guidance on the law against discrimination, case consultation, and myriad duties related to administration and enforcement of the law against discrimination. Prior to working at the commission, Janice worked as a judicial clerk. She has an extensive background in behavioral science and law enforcement, is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School, and is an active member of the Wisconsin State Bar Association.
