Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Grants Available

Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Grants Available

Washington’s Recreation and Conservation Office is accepting grant applications for the national Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership Program. The National Park Service has $15 million for grants to acquire and develop outdoor recreation sites in urban areas.

These competitive grants are made available through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF). The legacy program is designed to complement LWCF by creating new opportunities for outdoor play as well as developing or enhancing outdoor recreation areas in densely populated territory. Projects must have matching funds and showcase how partners at all levels can work collaboratively to leverage investment and support close-to-home recreation opportunities that will connect youth to public lands.

Attached is an At-a-Glance sheet that is designed to provide a quick overview of Washington’s implementation of this program. If you are interested in submitting a proposal, please contact your RCO grants manager. Applicants must start their applications as described in the Applicant's To Do List by March 31, 2016, with applications being due April 22, 2016.

The State of Washington may submit only two applications for the national competition. Pending Recreation and Conservation Funding Board approval, if RCO receives more than two proposals, the LWCF advisory committee will rank the projects using the federal evaluation criteria. RCO’s director then would select two projects for submittal to the National Park Service.

The National Park Service will share its preliminary results this fall. Grant awards will be made between January and March 2017.
