Description:  The Americans with Disabilities Act has been around for over 20 years, guiding progress in accessible facility design and inclusive programming.  With the passage of updated Access Board guidelines into enforceable standards in 2011, many park and recreation agencies are taking a new look at how to identify and remove barriers for persons of all abilities. Metro Parks Tacoma has an ADA Transition Plan that has guided agency capital decisions, resulting in accessibility improvements to over 70% of District facilities. Come learn the process Metro Parks Tacoma used to build and implement an ADA Transition Plan that not only meets federal requirements, but has led to needed community improvements.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will understand the requirement for an ADA Transition Plan.
  • Participants will be able to describe the elements of an effective ADA Transition Plan.
  • Participants will be able to plan how to complete an ADA Transition for their own agency.
