What WRPA Can Do For Non-Members During the COVID-19 Pandemic

A Message from the WRPA President

We know the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting you in a variety of ways, affecting your communities, your families, and your work. With that in mind, we simply wanted to reach out to let you know we are thinking of you. Your own health and wellbeing, and of those you love, should be your top concern right now.

Like you, we are adjusting to our new reality. We want to be respectful as your priorities shift and you find a new normal. WRPA also wants to be a resource for you, and though we are not able to meet together face-to-face, we are exploring new ways that we can continue to provide you with value.

Here are some local and national resources you and your team can utilize:

  • The WRPA Blog is a great way to stay up-to-date on what is happening in our Parks & Recreation Community. Posts include legislative updates, resources, and more.

  • Multi-County Director calls are taking place almost daily. To join the email list and stay up-to-date contact Travis Stombaugh with Si View Parks. For additional details check out the blog and this WRPA Resource.

  • Need additional support for your team or looking to help support others? Check out WRPA's Job Board.

  • WRPA will still be sending out our Bi-monthly E-Newsletter and other emails. Additional communication from our partners will also be featured in our upcoming messages. They are committed to supporting our community.

  • Visit NRPA's website to find some additional tools like NRPA Connect, the NRPA Press Room, the NRPA Blog, and more.

  • WRPA is also working to host a virtual Annual Meeting as well as further online opportunities to connect. More information will be coming soon.

We will continue to keep in touch as these plans evolve. Remember, you can still reach out to us with questions, concerns, and ideas. Though our staff is working remotely, our association office remains open and our work remains largely uninterrupted, just a little different for the time being. We are a high-functioning virtual team and are still eager to provide you with the support you need.

Lastly, I would also like to pass along my appreciation for the hard work and dedication everyone is providing during these challenging times. As parks and recreation professionals, our services are vital as ever as the community looks to have quality experience in light of the challenges and new parameters. Our department, for instance, is developing a new, positive messaging community e-news just around this crisis. It will include a message from our Mayor about her favorite book, ideas from Council members, craft ideas with instructions, staff’s and Council member’s favorite trails with reminders about social distancing, etc. This will be one way we’ll be communicating a positive message about recreating in the midst of a crisis and uncertainty.

As always, thank you for your support of WRPA. Our members and supporters are the life-blood of our organization, and we hope we can navigate through this challenging time together.
