Minimum wage increases |
|
Remember..
The minimum wage in Washington will increase 30
cents - from $7.63 to $7.93 an hour - beginning
January 1, 2007.
Each year, the Department of Labor and
Industries (L&I) recalculates the state’s
minimum wage as required by Initiative 688, which
was approved by Washington voters in 1998. The law
requires that the state minimum wage be adjusted
each year by the change in the federal Consumer
Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical
Workers (CPI-W) during the 12 months ending each
August 31.
With this increase, Washington State will
continue to have the highest minimum wage in the
nation. By contrast, the federal minimum wage of
$5.15 hasn’t increased since 1997.
For more information on Washington’s minimum
wage, go to Wages.LNI.wa.gov and select "Minimum
Wage" or call 1-866-219-7321.
