What Can You Do For WRPA | Sections | Committees

Show as multiple pages

First of all, be members!  Keep your membership current. Visit the WRPA Office, 4405 7th Ave SE, Suite 202, Lacey, WA 98503 and become acquainted with the staff. Tell them about your interests and ask for any help or information the Association or the staff can give you to assist in solving your problems.

  • Vote during elections:  View WRPA candidate officer profiles
  • Visit or call an officer, section chair, or District Representative. Learn about current or upcoming programs and find out where and how we can use your talents and expertise.
  • Volunteer to help – whether it be serving on a committee, writing an article for the newsletter, or helping with a special program.
  • Encourage your staff and colleagues to join WRPA and to become involved.
  • Suggest new studies, publications, and subject areas that the Association should investigate.
  • Respond when your Association asks you to fill out a survey or to write to a legislator or congressperson.
  • If you think the Association is not meeting your needs or you feel there is a problem, please inform the staff and the officers about it. Your input on services is needed to keep WRPA operating effectively.
  • Attend as many WRPA conferences, workshops, meetings and events as possible and encourage your staff and colleagues to do the same. Take advantage of these opportunities to meet with and share with other park and recreation professionals and to improve your professional skills.
  • Most important, participate. WRPA is here to serve its members, and in order for it to succeed, we need you.

Participate in Sections.  There are currently seven Special Interest Sections within WRPA. They are structured to meet the needs of a particular area of interest or function.

• Administrators
• Aquatics
• Athletics & Fitness
• Facility Services
• Park Resources
• Program Services
• Teen Services

Any WRPA member may affiliate with one of these sections at no additional fee. If you would like to join an additional section there is a $5.00 fee.

The effectiveness of WRPA depends largely on the dedicated work of its various committees. There is no better way to support the parks and recreation movement in Washington than by serving one or more of these standing committees:
  • Awards
  • Conference
  • Legislative
  • Constitution & By-Laws
  • Mid-Year Institute
  • Certification
  • Public Relations
  • Membership
  • Education/Research

The President appoints the chair of these positions. Please inform an officer or let the WRPA office know that you are interested in serving.
