Description: SKWIM: (pronounced like swim with a "k" = swim & skim) is a new and growing team water-disk sports game for all ages and abilities. SKWIM teaches open-water safety skills in the context of game play and is engineered to meet the needs of both non-swimmers and swimmers alike. With game gear and action that prepares youth and adults for lifesaving situations and drowning prevention, SKWIM is a solution to communities ill prepared to enter open-water environments where pool safety and competition swimming are the focus of swim lesson programs. Developed over 10 years of programming in Redmond, SKWIM Certification prepares youth and adults with open-water safety, response, and lifesaving skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • Evidence and awareness of the need for specialized open-water safety skills and training for youth and adults

  • Evidence and awareness of the vital need for the use of swim fins in all open-water environments

  • Evidence and awareness of the importance for a community recreational and competitive water-disk, fin-swimming sports game.

Speaker: Kevin McCarthy is Board Chair for SKWIM USA, a 501c3 of Sammamish Washington. Kevin is a 10-year volunteer youth swim instructor, a lifeguard, and ergonomic design consultant to companies including Nike Swim, Speedo USA, Jacuzzi, Finis eLifeguard and others.
